Getting Started

Make sure you have both pip and at least version 3.5 of Python before starting. Sanic uses the new async/await syntax, so earlier versions of python won’t work.

1. Install Sanic

python3 -m pip install sanic

2. Create a file called main.py

from sanic import Sanic
from sanic.response import json

app = Sanic()

@app.route("/")
async def test(request):
    return json({"hello": "world"})

if __name__ == "__main__":
    app.run(host="0.0.0.0", port=8000)

3. Run the server

python3 main.py

4. Check your browser

Open the address http://0.0.0.0:8000 in your web browser. You should see the message Hello world!.

You now have a working Sanic server!
